Cinderella Rockerfella
Cinderella and Rockerfella is a modern, panto-style reworking of the well-loved classic tale. It has fresh and relevant things to say about fame, fortune and how true love will win through in the end. It includes all the traditional characters: the downtrodden Cinderella, the megastar Rockerfella (formerly known as Prince Charming), the ever-dependable Buttons, The Ugly Sisters and the Fairy Godmother. There are additional characters including Danni Deeny (Rocky’s Manager), a T.V. reporter, talking animals and fairies good and bad; not to mention a joke-packed warm-up routine, fabulous songs & dances and a wonderfully comical script.
Cosby National School has been performing school plays in the Dunamaise Theatre biennially for the past 12 years. This was our 7 th play and we played to a packed audience of delighted parents, family and friends of the school.
All 38 pupils from the school performed in the play, that’s junior infants to 6 th class inclusive. Daphne Harding, the school Principal and teacher Jackie Cooper chose the play along with the senior room pupils. Marie Cashin was our choreographer and brought the songs to life for us by teaching us some great dance routines.
Rehearsals began at the beginning of December, both in school time and some additional sessions after school and continued all the way up to the performance on Saturday 11 th February, including two full rehearsals in the Dunamaise on the 6 th and 8 th of February. We made our own props during art classes and were kept in order by our props manager Lorcan Rooney. Our magnificent costumes were sourced and fitted by Daphne Harding, by recycling previous costumes, borrowing and swapping clothes.
A huge ‘Thank You’ to Michelle, Nick and all at the Dunamaise Theatre for facilitating our show and working with us on lighting, sounds etc.
… To David and Jake Bickerdike for recording the show
… AND ESPECIALLY to all the pupils for their ideas and input, and for working so hard and so enthusiastically on every aspect of the play. Needless to say the children all performed their socks off and we all had a ball!!!
